This is the most special day, to be remembered and relived during your life together. Mauritius can provide the perfect venue for this day. Exchange your vows on a palm-fringed beach with the setting sun casting a warm glow over the wide, blue ocean. Sip champagne before a romantic dinner by candlelight, as the summer breeze cools the evening air.

World Leisure Holidays details related to planning a wedding in Mauritius:

Legal status
Your marriage will be recognised in South Africa - as long as you submit your wedding certificate to Home Affairs, together with your antenuptial contract (which you can sign before leaving for Mauritius).

Beforehand
All you need to do before jetting off - after booking your trip, of course - is send original unabridged birth certificates to the Mauritian Home Affairs Department eight weeks in advance (we can assist with this) and obtain a certificate from the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages stating that you are neither Mauritian citizens nor Mauritian residents. This certificate can be obtained beforehand by sending a request to the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, 7th Floor, Emmanuel Anquetil Building, Port-Louis. You'll also need to find a wedding dress and a suit for the groom.

Upon arrival
On your first working day in Mauritius, visit the Supreme Court and appear before a magistrate who will check your birth certificates and passports, ask you to declare that you are not already married, inform you that you cannot get married during your first three working days on the island and lodge your names in the marriage registry. Once approved by the authorities (i.e. after three working days), your wedding can be celebrated within 24 hours, except on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Not so long ago, Sega represented the only way of entertainment for African slaves, who, after a long day of work in the sugarcane plantations would gather at night to dance at the beach. Sega is the music of oppression and party, the purest expression of Mauritius people.

Today, Sega and Seggae, the child of Sega and Reggae, are still the most popular rythms between Mauritians. You’ll hear them live on popular beaches (like Flic en Flac or Trou aux Biches) on a Sunday afternoon, played by jamming locals accompanied by their families. For a cultural experience, many Hotels offer a traditional dinner (or only drinks) along with live Sega entertainment with musicians and dancers, so fill-up that Mojito and join the party!
